In 1876 the Texas legislature formed Moore County from lands formerly assigned to Bexar County. Located in the Texas Panhandle, it is named for Commodore Edwin Ward Moore. He was Commander of the Texas Navy when Texas was still a Republic. Click here to learn more about Moore Co. The county seat is Dumas.
